The Most Comprehensive Letter Show and Tell List EVER
I know you’re really just here for the letter show and tell list so I’ll save the funny stories and extra ideas for the end. If you have a child under the age of 6, bookmark this page in your phone because believe me, you’re going to need it. You may not think you will, but trust me. You will. And you’re welcome.
But first I do have to tell you that as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. There. I said it. This means that if you click on one of my affiliate links and happen to buy something (that thing, or anything) from Amazon, I may earn a small commission at zero cost to you. I am not getting rich here, just trying to make enough to convince my husband it is okay to keep paying for this blog. Thank you for supporting me!! Now you know. Carry on.
Hope this helps!
If I forgot anything let me know in the comments!

Some other show and tell ideas if you still have time:
- Have them cut pictures out of magazines for whatever letter they have, or simply find as many of that letter as they can.
- Magnet letters. Check underneath the fridge. That’s where they all end up anyway.
- Foamy bathtub letters. Do yours have bite marks on all of them too? No? Just us?
- Scrabble letters. Do you actually play that game anyway? Who cares if you end up missing a letter?!
- Bring a picture of a family member whose name that starts with that letter.
- Have them draw a picture of something that starts with that letter. Now we’re being creative too!
- Print out a picture of whatever object they choose. Don’t have a gargoyle at home? Just print out a picture of one.
- Get Dr. Seuss’s ABC book (affiliate link). I mean, even a man who made up words couldn’t think of anything that starts with X, but it could come in handy for every other letter!
If you’re desperate:
- Check your purse. Check the diaper bag. Check the console and the glove box. Check the trunk. Check under the seats. Check between the car seats. Check IN the car seats. If you still can’t find anything or make something from this list work, you’re just outta luck, Mama!

Aaaaand now for storytime
When I was a kid, show and tell was pretty much the best day ever. I don’t remember a single thing I ever brought, and as shy as I was, I probably just stood silent at the front of the class while the teacher asked me yes or no questions about whatever thing I brought. I do, however, remember the time Sean Karbowski brought his dad for show and tell. He was such a genius.
Somewhere between my preschool days and today, now that I have my own show and tell aged kid, the rules have changed. Now, preschools assign a letter every week and your show and tell item has to start with that letter. When Harper first started this newfangled show and tell, for 2 days we would discuss ALL the things that start with that letter. Then the night before, we would narrow it down and place whatever prized possession in her backpack for the next day. By the end of the year, if we happened to remember show and tell day, it usually involved me yelling “Go grab a _____! They’re going to start school without you!”
Preschool show and tell was hard enough, but then Harper had to go and start kindergarten. One night, a couple of weeks after school started, I was cleaning out her backpack after she was already in bed, and I found this:

My child was assigned the letter X. She was to be an “expert” on the letter X. She needed to be able to write it in its upper and lower case, know it’s sound, and bring something that would fit inside a sandwich bag that starts with that letter. Sounds easy enough… for every single other letter. Except MY kid got the LETTER X!!!
There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. There are 22 kids in her class. Oh, the thoughts that went through my mind that night. And remember, when I found this paper, she was already in bed!
I decided to print out a map and mark an X for “X marks the spot.” My plan was to have her color the map before school so that at least she would have contributed something…

So this list is for you, dear parents. For those of us who want our kids to succeed, and are willing to help them in whatever way possible, but often find ourselves such a hot mess that we only remember show and tell as we pull into the school parking lot. For those of us who have sent our little angels in with a napkin because today’s show and tell letter is N and it’s all we could come up with from the contents of our car.
I made this list from (you guessed it) the contents of my car, and the contents of my children’s rooms as I cleaned them out with a box marked “donate.” I also tried to write down the characters of any show my kids have ever been interested in and that you may be able to find hidden deep in the nooks and crannies of your own children’s rooms. Hopefully I’ll remember to keep this list up to date. No promises though!
I know there are so many other things that would be

What a fantastic list! I can certainly say that I could have benefited from this many a night or morning of waiting last minute scrambling to try to think of anything for any and all letters. 😉

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and appearance. I must say that you’ve done a excellent job with this. In addition, the blog loads very quick for me on Internet explorer. Superb Blog!
Jessica
Oh thanks! I actually worry that it’s too slow sometimes.
