    P-6 Farms Fall Festival

Harper’s school had a 4-day weekend for Columbus Day and though Dustin had to work, I was determined to make it a fun staycation for the 3 of us. One of the many things we did was spending a day at P6 Farms in Montgomery, Texas. We’ve been to other farms around Houston, but when I talked to Dustin that night I told him that P6 was my new favorite farm of all, hands down. First of all, I bought the tickets online just before we left the…

    Kindergarten

Harper was only a couple weeks old when I sat holding her in the middle of my bed, just sobbing over how much she had grown in such a short time. I wish hormones played a role every time this happened thereafter, but here I am doing it again as my baby started kindergarten today. All summer she’s been anxious about school, mostly because she was afraid of having a principal (a fear only that child would have, and rightfully so). All summer I’d been fine. I was…

    Destination: Destin

Since summer is almost over and it’s our last summer before Harper starts kindergarten (I’m only crying a little over here), we planned a last-minute trip to Destin. It also happened to be over my mom’s 60th birthday so I coerced her into tagging along. Then I remembered that my sister, Jackie, was wanting to take her kids somewhere within driving distance, so I invited them too. And then suddenly we had a lot of people. We decided to rent a condo, which, you know, has its pros…

    Galveston Family Photo Session

Since Hudson is officially a year old, we decided it was time for a family photo session with our friend Laura from Studio Bloom Photography. We met Laura a few years ago when I stumbled across her website looking for a maternity photographer and she has done so many of our family photos ever since! Since its so super hot here I’d been trying to think of places we could go that we wouldn’t just be gross and sweaty and flushed. Without going indoors, Galveston was about the only…

    Hudson is a Wild ONE!

Back in the days when I thought I could plan a pregnancy and birth whenever I wanted, I swore I would never have a summer baby because, well, Houston. But because God likes to laugh at me, I delivered a sweet baby boy at the end of June. This means summer birthdays for the rest of my life. On the bright side, at least He had a little mercy on me and didn’t go for August. It could always be worse. Before my sister had kids, she always…

    Hudson’s First Birthday

My Sweet Hudson, I cannot believe I am sitting here reflecting on your first year of life. The baby I thought I would never have just turned a year old. We prayed so hard for you and thought God was saying no when I finally found out I was pregnant. We were hopeful but realistic, and when we thought we were going to lose you too I was beside myself. I still cry when I think about the day I finally heard that beautiful heartbeat of yours and…

    Just Keep Swimming…

I can’t swim. Not really. I always say I can swim well enough that I won’t drown…right away. So Harper has been in swimming lessons of various sorts since about the time she could walk. Last summer she would have been ready for swim team but being very pregnant with a husband who works out of town, I refused to put her in. I have friends who have kids in swim team and all I had ever heard about it were horror stories. 7 am practices every day,…

    Mother’s Day Handprint Project

My mom always said that the older her kids got, the more she was truly able to enjoy them. Then she would have to clarify that she loved us when we were little, but blah, blah, blah… My kids are still pretty small(ish) and I can totally agree that the older they get, the more I can do with them, but I just cannot get enough of their babyness. Their eyelashes, their chubby toes, the way they smother themselves with a blanket to go to sleep, I just…

Great Wolf Lodge and Arkansas Road Trip

Dustin had been in training for the majority of the month and he finally had a week off. Before he left for training we kept saying we should do something when he got home but we didn’t start looking until he was back home. Seattle, LA, San Diego and San Fran, New York, Ontario, Orlando, Nassau… everything was so expensive. Everywhere. Guess that’s what happens when you look at flights for tomorrow. So I literally opened the map app on my phone and zoomed out as if I…

    Best Photo Printing Sites

Guys, my pictures are probably more important to me than they should be. So when I have them printed I want the very best quality I can possibly get. But I’ve wondered for years though which site really is the very best. Usually, the site I choose is based on what I plan to do with the pictures. If they are going in a frame or a scrapbook it has to be Mpix. I know they aren’t cheap but money is no object in those situations, though my…

Hi guys! I’m Jessica.

I’m a part-time nurse, full-time mom.

My husband is a pilot, but I’m the one that always wants to travel. Anywhere. Everywhere!

Weapon of choice: My trusty pink glue gun.

I’m equal parts type A perfectionist, and I-don’t-know-what-I’m-doing-so-I’m-just-gonna-wing-it.

This blog is a little bit of ALL of that. It’s a little bit of me.

So sit down and stay a while because I cannot tell a short story.

“If I have one day left to live, take me to a sw “If I have one day left to live, take me to a swim meet. They last forever.” ~Blatantly stolen from the classic swim parent t-shirt⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Seriously though. Sometimes I question my sanity. In fact, I sent those exact words to my husband at 7:09 on this fine Saturday morning as I trudged a mile back to the pool from my second parking spot of the morning. I’m technically the one that signed us all up for this madness and I am 100% convinced it is more work for me than the girl who practices every day.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Now that I’m home and showered and have FINALLY stopped sweating, I’m counting today’s meet a success. One kid shaved some time in every event, and the other didn’t get lost in the crowd even once. Can’t ask for more than that!⁣⁣
⁣
Who else spent their Saturday doing all the sports things?!⁣
⁣⁣
🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♀️⁣
I saw a meme recently that said something like, “Marry the man that orders your second choice at a restaurant.” I smiled because my husband does just that. Every time. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I don’t brag on him enough. There’s not enough space here to list all the ways he shows his love, but I never doubt it for a second. It’s in the big things, for sure, but even more in the small things. Like ordering my second choice at a restaurant so I can try a little of both. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Buuuuut I also blame him and all this food for me having to buy bigger pants, so there’s that. ⁣⁣

We did it! The hubs and I have officially survived We did it! The hubs and I have officially survived that particular form of preschool parent torture known as letter show and tell (Because this is very much a parent assignment). And this was our second time around I might add. ⁣
⁣
A couple months into this school year, one of Hudson’s teachers made a comment about how the kid “has a truck for every letter of the alphabet.” We didn’t even notice that all he had taken was some sort of vehicle, but suddenly we understood the assignment. Challenge accepted. ⁣
⁣

B- Backhoe⁣
C- Car (or was it a crane? 🤔)⁣
D- Dump truck⁣
E- Excavator⁣
F- Firetruck⁣
G- Grave digger⁣
H- Helicopter ⁣

I know I’ve posted about letter show and tell before, but today, after finally making it to letter Z, I feel like the rest of my life can begin. ⁣
⁣
I know no one needs my list at this point in the year, but if you have littles, go to my blog and bookmark my letter show and tell list for the future (there are so many more ideas than just vehicles!). This is by far my most popular blog post, with good reason. ⁣
⁣
Do it. Just trust me. ⁣

If anyone is looking for a personal trainer I have If anyone is looking for a personal trainer I have a great one to recommend. Don’t let his age deceive you. He is truly the best of the best. Hudson constantly offers encouraging words, physical challenges, and pushes you to the outer limits of your sanity.

Like any quality fitness instructor, he does each move with you twice, then walks circles around you critiquing your technique.

“Mommy, you aren’t going as fast as them.”

“I can do that better than you, Mommy.”

“They didn’t say water break, Mommy.”

“Mommy, they’re jumping higher than you.”

“Come on Mommy this is easy.”

“Mommy.”

“Mommy.”

“Mommy!”

To add a little extra challenge, he is constantly in your way trying to trip you. He hangs on you, crawls under you, and remains just far enough that he doesn’t get kicked in the face, but close enough that you’re certain he will.

But what really sets him apart as a top-notch trainer is how he tests your focus. He tries to distract you by asking irrelevant questions until you finally lose your mind and use your very last breath to say, “GET AWAY AND STOP TALKING TO ME!”

To which he always responds, “Can I have a Lunchable?”

🥵💪🔥
I feel like I’m supposed to come up with some be I feel like I’m supposed to come up with some beautiful words today, but when the pressure is on I’ve got nothing. I love my mom and I love being a mom. That’s all I have at the moment. This is a Hallmark holiday anyway. ⁣
⁣
I spent the afternoon with my mom, eating Chinese and doing a puzzle, while my children did whatever they wanted because on Mother’s Day I get to not care. This is our tradition. ⁣
⁣
Also, I didn’t take a single picture today (rare for me, I know), so here’s a really old (really appropriate) one of us. ⁣
I’m sorry. You know I had to. ⁣ ⁣ May the fo I’m sorry. You know I had to. ⁣
